would the canon rebel xsi be a good camera for me?
i’m a seventeen year old amateur who has fully mastered her point and shoot both forwards and backwards. i know all about f stops, iso, exposure, etc. i plan on shooting portraits as well as action shots. would the canon rebel xsi be a good camera for me?

Yes, it is a fine camera. You will be able to do some amazing new stuff with it.
I would suggest looking at Nikon, Olympus, and Sony as well. They all have equivalent camera’s. Make sure to pick a camera that is comfortable in your hand and review all their features. You may still decide to buy the XSI but at least it will be a well informed choice.
I personally would recommend looking at the Olympus E-520 because it has a ton of features packed into it for a very good price.
Don’t under estimate comfort though. Go into a camera shop or two that carry a full line of camera’s and play with them all. Once you buy a DSLR you are married to that brand more or less because all lenses and equipment that you buy only work with that brand. It can be a huge investment over time.
